Who We Are

Marilyn Mann

  • What originally got you interested in your current field of work? For as long as I can remember, my parents were always helping families and volunteering to serve where they were needed, whether it be at church, school, or the community. It is this compassion that leads to a path of serving others and helping others become the best they can be. The greatest joy is seeing someone reach their potential and spread their wings and soar. Helping parent groups, connecting mentors with mentees, and building relationships with our community is at the heart of volunteerism.

  • Favorite thing about your current job? I love working with all the amazing parent group leaders, mentors, church and business partnerships, and building strong relationships to better serve our students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

  • How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now? She would say let’s have some fun and plan all kinds of events.

  • Career highlight you’re most proud of? Any professional awards that you’ve gotten? Recognition? The career highlight for me was working in partnership with the Buddhist Foundation, donated $25,000 to our families, who suffered another flooding of their homes on May 7, 2019; after having rebuilt their homes from Hurricane Harvey. The Buddhist Foundation also gave each family an emergency blanket made out of recycled water bottles, and a care package. The distribution of these items was at the Elm Grove Elementary School. The Foundation gave a presentation about their organization and shared a dance. It was an emotional and moving experience to feel the love of the members of the Buddhist Foundation. These monies helped 50 families.

  • Favorite part of workday? My favorite part of the workday is the early morning hours when you can see everyone arriving in the building and the energy and actions begins for the day. It is energizing to start a new day.

  • What is your definition of success? My definition of success is to spread kindness and love and to help others become the best they can be in life. It is making someone feel special, valued, and appreciated. It is being a cheerleader for everyone we meet in our lives.
