Susan Luethold has dedicated nearly five decades to the field of school health, impacting countless students, families, and fellow professionals through her leadership and advocacy.
Susan began her distinguished career at Lakeland Elementary in 1977, where she served as a school nurse for 20 years. In 1997, she was appointed as the Health Services Administrator, a role she fulfilled with vision and dedication until 2025. For many years, Susan served as the district’s sole Health Services Administrator, laying the foundation for a comprehensive, high-quality school health program.
Beyond her district, Susan was a committed leader at the state and national levels. She served on the Texas School Nurses Organization (TSNO) Board for many years, championing initiatives to support school nurses across the state. Nationally, she contributed her expertise to the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) as a Board Member for seven years and served on the Executive Committee for two of those years.
A strong advocate for professional excellence, Susan consistently encouraged school nurses to pursue National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) certification, recognizing the importance of advanced credentials in elevating the profession. Throughout her career, she worked tirelessly to ensure that the communities served by school nurses recognized school nursing as a vital, highly respected profession — one that demands significant mental, physical, and emotional commitment.
Susan’s retirement on March 26, 2025, marks the culmination of a career defined by leadership, advocacy, and a deep commitment to the well-being of students and the advancement of school nursing. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of school health professionals.
